Princess Chulabhorn Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station, ThailandPublishDate:2022-07-27

In February 2009, the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) secretariat held a meeting in Shanghai, focusing on the issue of the landing of data from China's "Environmental Disaster Reduction No. 1A Satellite" in Thailand. The China Resource Satellite Application Center has given specific solutions for the reception and processing of environmental disaster reduction No. 1A satellite data in Thailand, which the Thai side attaches great importance to. After many negotiations between the two parties, a commercial contract was signed at the end of 2009. Funded by the Agricultural University of Thailand, the China Resources Satellite Application Center was responsible for the development of the satellite ground receiving and processing system, covering the entire process of satellite data reception, processing, storage and distribution. On February 25th, 2011, the ground receiving and processing system successfully received the first orbit data. On April 1st, 2011, CRESDA officially delivered the HJ-1A satellite ground system Thailand station to Thailand Agricultural University. Lv Jian, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, and Jirawan Boonperm, Permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology of Thailand, attended the delivery ceremony.

In April 2011, floods broke out in southern Thailand due to heavy precipitation. The satellite receiving and processing system received, processed, interpreted, and analyzed the satellite remote sensing images of southern Thailand flood disasters uploaded by HJ-1A satellite in real time every day, helping Thailand relevant department to understand the disaster situation in time. Compared with before, the timeliness of satellite remote sensing image acquisition has been greatly improved, and relevant image data have been distributed to relevant departments for free. Udichai, president of Thailand Agricultural University, said: "The China Environmental Disaster Reduction Satellite Thailand Receiving Station Project has benefited some government departments and scientific research departments in Thailand. I think this project is of great benefit to Thailand."

Approved by the Thai royal family and government, on July 9, 2011, the ground receiving and processing system was officially named as "Princess Chulabhorn Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station". Princess Chulapong of Thailand attended the naming and opening ceremony of the ground station. Guan Mu, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, spoke highly of when he attended the ceremony, "China Aerospace has done a great deed for the benefit of the Thai people."

The successful implementation of this project has created a new situation for China's satellite remote sensing data products to expand into the international market. This is a useful attempt by the two sides to jointly build a satellite ground receiving and processing system project and carry out technical exchanges of remote sensing satellite data ground systems, and lay a solid foundation for the next step in the cooperation in the space field between the two countries.
