Land Observation Satellite Emergency Monitoring of the 6.1-magnitude Earthquake in Lushan County, Ya'an, SichuanPublishDate:2022-07-25

  At 17:00 on June 1, 2022, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in Lushan County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province, followed by a magnitude 4.5 earthquake in Baoxing County, Ya'an City, causing casualties and property damage.

  The China Resources Satellite Application Center affiliated to China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation launched the emergency response mechanism for major natural disasters at the first time on the afternoon of June 1, urgently dispatching in-orbit satellites, carrying out satellite transit prediction, monitoring and control resource coordination and imaging instruction revision. During the epidemic, the Gaofen-4 satellite was arranged in time to conduct an observation on the disaster area on the 1st. The Gaofen-1 03 satellite, the China-Pakistan Earth Resources Satellite 04A satellite, the ZY-1 02E satellite, and the Gaojing-1 satellite were arranged to observe the disaster area 4 times on the 2nd. At the same time, the historical archives and post-disaster monitoring data of the disaster area are shared urgently through various methods such as direct transmission through dedicated lines, network disk sharing and FTP sharing.

  Up to now, 6 scenes of disaster data have been shared, including 1 scene of pre-disaster data and 5 scenes of post-disaster data. The data has been provided to more than 10 units including the Ministry of Emergency Management, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the China Earthquake Administration, the China Meteorological Administration, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and relevant institutions in Sichuan Province.

  In the follow-up, China Resources Satellite Application Center will arrange satellite imaging in a timely and scientific manner according to the disaster situation and the needs of relevant departments, and provide strong support for disaster rescue and disaster assessment.
